You run such a large gauntlet of OS versions it's hard telling. Especially
when it comes to SQL. You also failed to mention the compiler error
message.

Knowing those might help. For example, if you subprocedures using:
DECLARE CURSOR
OPEN
FETCH
CLOSE
and even though you execute them in the right order if they are not
physically in the right order at V6R1 they will not compile (or should I
say precomple?).

I duplicated this error though on V5R4. And I searched ibm for CPF980F.
Other than a few hits for Messages that could be monitored for when doing
certain commands I got nothing.

Any chance that someone might have done a
CHGMSGD MSGID(CPF980F) SEV(00)

On my system it's a sev 40.
