I have a data area, ##TRIGCTL. It is a flag to allow me to disable a
trigger program without requiring exclusive access to the PF in
question. I created the data area like so:

CRTDTAARA DTAARA(<lib>/##TRIGCTL) TYPE(*LGL) LEN(1) VALUE('1') TEXT('1
to run DSR070T00 trigger, 0 to disable')


My corresponding RPG variable is defined with this line:

D triggerControl...
D S 1A dtaara(##trigCtl)


The first lines of my RPG trigger program are:

in triggerControl;
if (triggerControl <> '1');
return;
endif;

FWIW, I initially tried defining triggerControl as a named indicator,
but it evaluated to false even though the value was '1' in debug.

When the code above runs, I get the error message below. It seems
contradictory to me. I'll work around this by defining the data area as

character instead, but can anyone shed light on this problem for future
reference?

type *LGL and length 1. If a *LGL data area is expected, a data area

of type
*CHAR and length 1 is also allowed.

Recovery . . . : Correct the type or length of the data area, or
change the
library list so the correct data area will be found.
