who use VARYING fields without ever taking their address.

__To overstate the obvious, that includes, among others, the brightest and the best among us, who use such techniques based on technical explanations about how these things are implemented (thank you IBM and compiler team), and count on the compiler team history of avoiding the breaking of code.
