Thirty years ago when I was just starting to program, I had a book on
programming to had a list of no-no's of programming and one of the
highest on the list was not using "Magic" numbers.

Magic numbers are things you put in a program that mean nothing to
anyone except the person who wrote them.

Example,

SomeValue = AValue/5;

What does 5 mean? It's magic!

SomeValue = AValue/cDaysInPeriod;

cDaysInPeriod means something. 5 does not.

So thirty years later I am still using Named Constants wherever possible
and 30 years later I am still seeing programs filled with magic numbers.
