Could you post an example of this using the logical file approach

Subject: RE: Date problem

Part of the problem is that you "perceive" that you need to take this date
field and change it back to a decimal yymmdd because that is what the key
to the file is and you want to do a setll.

If you can absolutely guarantee that no date in that file is from the last
century then the techniques presented by others should work. However, a
workaround, until remediation of the file can be completed, is to make a
logical file, or SQL view, that treats the yymmdd decimal field as a true
date field. True, computed on the fly fields are not the best performers,
but it will work. Sounds like fun to make that file but I've got a
project that's hot.

First of all whoever did not remediate that file as part of the Y2K
project needs to be horse dragged through a cactus field. And if they
created the file after that time they need to quit and become a greeter at
Walmart.

Funny thing is, if the file remains yymmdd and you can guarantee that it
will always remain this century, then you might be better off doing the
setll on the number. Because converting a yymmdd to a date field has
funny rules about the year 2040.
