Michael is correct. You will need a separate program to prompt for the value or you can use a display file inline to your CL program because the SQLRPGLE source type won't accommodate a display file and I/O from that file (as far as I know).

There are plenty of examples of using a CL to prompt for and pass the value. As an alternative you could just front end the program with a command prompt but that would give you only a limited set of editing options.

Several ways to skin the cat (no offense to PETA....) You may want to look at using a display file within a CL program first.

Michael and Pete,
Thanks a lot for the suggestions and I agree with Michael my programming
style is really crude because I am just trying to get the code to work for
now...:-) but I will definitely take your suggestions into consideration as
a matter of fact I already modified my code. Pete, I never coded a display
file before and you are right I have to get comfortable with that concept.
Too bad that it is not as easy as a .jsp front end!! So, a CL program is a
must to go with it? or is it just a good thing to have? Thanks for all the
help coming my way
