What Barbarra and the others are saying is that the above syntax was
available from V3R2/V3R6 on, but new in V5R4 is ability to have the
replacement prefix be *shorter* -- that is you can *remove* leading
characters of a field name now where you could not prior to V5R4.  For those
folks who typically used one or two leading bytes of a field name to
identify the physical file, this gives the capability to strip off those
letters.  This is particularly useful for the new ability to do the
equivalent of COBOL's MOVE CORRESPONDING operation because fields can end up
with the same name once the prefix is stripped off.
