Since I will be rewriting the code anyhow, I'll change them over to be a
little more in-line with IBM's coding practices.

The dollar has no significance (unless you're trading in  foreign
currencies <g>) and I would suspect it's only there as part of the
programmers naming convention so that when looking at a listing, it's
obvious to the programmer that it's a subroutine name and not a field
name.
