I understand you can do this by defining keyword RECNO with the File
Declaration.

FWORKFILE UF E DISK RECNO(WRKRRN)

When u read a particular record in the file , you can get the RRN in the WRKRRN
( Its what I have defined in the example).
If you want to update your file you can chain with the WRKRRN and update it.

Subject: Update a particular record in a sequential file

I have this situation where I need to update a particular record in a
file (Arrival sequence with no keys) without reading it fully. That
particular record can be anywhere in the file. Is it possible to do this
through RPGLE without creating any logical file for the file and also
without using SQLRPGLE.

Thanks,
Ganesh
