Barbara/Hans/ or other IBMers,

I had sent the following to the list but did not get an answer as why
%Status was NOT changed from '11' to '0' in this situation:
Bob Cozzi had indicated that Barbara had provided him with some insight as
to when %Status is changed.
It seems that the manual is not correct, or that I am misunderstanding
'before any operation with an 'E' extender specified begins', or what status
= 11 actually means.

TIA

List,

I am having a problem understanding %Status for a file.

The test file (IPXB00) has 3 records (keyed by seq#s 1, 2, and 3) and 1
record format (IPXB00R).

After having READ(EN) rec#3, debugging shows that %Status for the file is
'11', as I expected.
Debugging also shows that I have retrieved rec# 3.
My mental image of where the file pointer (^) is:
        Record 1 : Record 2 : Record 3: (^)

The program then executes the following statement:
ReadP(EN) IpXB00R IpXB00I;
Debugging shows that I have re-retrieved rec# 3, as I expected.
My mental image of where the file pointer (^) should be is:
        Record 1 : Record 2 :(^) Record 3:

At this point I would have thought that the %Status would no longer = '11'
(indicating EOF), but debugging (1 line at a time) shows that it is still
'11'.

I'm confused and any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

Per the WS RPG ILE reference manual: "%STATUS starts with a return value of
00000 and is reset to 00000 before any operation with an 'E' extender
specified begins.

Note that it says "before any operation with an 'E' extender specified
begins" and that I am doing a READP(EN).
