Not true.  I can make variables "public" in RPG *SRVPGM's.  Read up on
Data Exports/Imports.  Basically the same functionality as Java.  I can
even export it as a different name than what I call it in my RPG program
so maybe there is even more functionality in RPG than Java ;-)

Java is a object oriented language and data encapsulation is a big deal
because other classes can access them directly if that data is not
encapsulated.  However, that is not so in a structure program language.

More important is the reason for creating getters/setters in the first
place.  It is to encapsulate the data so that the _only_ way it can
change is under the control of the code that "owns" that data.  That is
exactly the opposite of what you are doing.
