Good idea!

I've already changed my program to set the numeric field to zero  if alpha
field is blank, but I may use this method in the future.
I don't see why this wouldn't work.

Ps.     Tony - maybe I'll see you again at the next spring RPG World.

I, too believe that, in principle, if blanks are considered zero, then all
blanks should equal all zeroes... Okay, I'm off the soap box.  Here's an
idea.  Why not just pre-pend a zero at the beginning of the field being
converted?  For example, 

 

PackedX = %Int( '0' + StringA )

 

A leading zero will never change the value of a number, and if StringA is
all blanks, then zero you shall receive.  

 

Will this work?
