What I normally do is find all of the records I want to remove and use the
id number to remove them

For example:
SELECT * FROM table WHERE username="soandso"
put the data into an array
DELETE * FROM table WHERE id="$id"

I would put that in a loop for multiple records. Also I do this in PHP but
the concept and most of the syntax should be the same.
