In V4R5, is it possible to define a date data type in a data structure
and define a "year" subfield? The date field in question is *ISO.

I know one can do an EXTRCT on the date into another field, but I'm
trying to avoid that. (Why? Because the year field is already defined
in a data structure as a subfield for an 8-digit date numeric field. I
am attempting to replace the 8-digit date numeric field with a field
that is a date data type. The year value is used extensively in the
program, and I do not wish to insert EXTRCTs all over the code.)

Wouldn't it be nice if one could do (where ClosingDate is a date data
type):
    c If ClosingDate:*Year = 2002

Anyone know of an online reference that shows *many* variations of
using date fields in RPG? (NOT the IBM RPG reference manual!)

TIA, Dan
