Frank, try declaring ARMSG01 as a varying array.  With VARYING CTDATA,
trailing blanks are trimmed when loading the array.

D ARMSG01         S             78    DIM(6) CTDATA PERRCD(1) VARYING

Then you won't need to add the %TRIM.
