I was trying to chain to each record of the subfile using the RRN, then
move the changed fields to the PF fields and do an update. This does not
seem to be working. But a READC will not work either because the subfile
records themselves may not have been changed. I am not sure this makes any
sense in type...but if anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. Thank you in
advance.

You may want to try this.
Key assumptions
1. you have SFLNXTCHG coded in the subfile.
2. your READC loop is coded OK.
3. you want the CTL record changes to be reflected in the SFL.

You may want to try this.
When loading the subfile set ON the conditioning indicator for
SFLNXTCHG this way each record is treated as though its
MDT is on. That way in your READC loop every record will be
read and you can update each RRN with the CTL record changes.

(ps let me know if this works!)
