Please get involved in your local Mid-range User Group. Its fun, its
regular, and its affordable. Also consider the regional user group shows,
like the New England Conference every Spring. That 3-day event is under
$1
000, including a nice hotel room and meals.

Unlike M$, you're not forced to upgrade your skills. Programs written for
the System/34 will still run on an 890. In most organizations, IT is seen
as a necessary evil and money not spent on IT training, is considered
money
saved.
I must attend 1 to 3 seminars or something like that every year. I have
yet, in seven years, been sent to anything devoted to application
development other than the Phil and George show at COMMON a few years ago.
And getting that was like pulling teeth. Mostly they send me to either
management seminars or something to do with NT. I am not a manager and we
only have 3 NT servers in our company. It's extremely frustrating.

Thanks,

Mark

Still thinking on my last post...

Doesn't it seem odd that companies who can get past the initial high cost
of
the AS/400 platform because they can see the long-term total cost of
ownership (TCO) find it difficult to see the benefit of keeping their IT
staff up-to-date in the technology?
