Mark,

I am not sure I follow you, but to dynamically change the input
area you need to use an SQLDA. So you end up with "FETCH
FROM cursor USING DESCRIPTOR :descriptor".

If you are looking for some examples, the iSeries-toolkit contains one

in the DYNSQL module at:
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/iseries-toolkit/CVSROOT/src/qrpglesrc/dynsql.sir?rev=HEAD&content-type=text/vnd.viewcvs-markup

You can download the whole package at www.iseries-toolkit.org.

I would like to run a dynamic SQL statement with an undetermined (at
compile time) number of placeholder variables.

Building the PREPARE string w/ the placemarkers is not a problem.
My
question is how do I specify the "OPEN cursor INTO" dynamically?

  TIA.
