This is probably a result of the UK system having a different CCSID than a 
system in the United States.  Refer to the IBM manual on International 
Application Development.  Chapter 1 gives a pretty good overview of what 
happens when translating using different code pages and CCSIDs.  This subject 
can get very deep and very confusing very quickly.

sometimes got altered. For example, "[" becomes "^". This happens to an
