Then change your check from
If Status='A'
to
If Status=Active
and have Active be a defined constant with a value of 'A'

Sort of like the following:
D NoError C 0
D RecordNotFound C 12
D DuplicateKey C 1021
D ReferentialErr C 1022
D TriggerErrBef C 1023
D TriggerErrAft C 1024
D Youareold C 1031
D FileClosed C 1211
D FileOpen C 1215
D ImpOpenCloseEr C 1216
D ExpOpenCloseEr C 1217
D RecAlreadyLock C 1218
D UpdBeforeRead C 1221
D RefErrOnAlloc C 1222
D PermIOErr C 1251
D JobEndingCtl C 1282
...
if %status(filea)=RecordNotFound

Now isn't that better than
if %status(filea)=12

I like right-hand comments to define cryptic variables or codes:

IF Status = 'A' (Active)
ENDIF

It's a lot better than having to go look it up in some table...

...of course it's even better if you don't use a code at all:

IF Status = 'Active'
ENDIF

but we don't always have that luxury.
