I would vote for testing the file to see if the file contains data ... If
not ... the program should skip opening the subfile.  

Yes, there could be a problem with the added field ... but that would occur
after you had succeeded in opening the subfile..

Remove th field you added to the SFL, recompile and see if problem goes
buy bye...if bye byhe, then problem with field...whih is where my money is
at right now...
