Buongiorno! (buona notte?!)

stat() is how I do it.

h bnddir('QC2LE')

 * File stats
 *   #include <sys/stat.h>
 *
 *   int stat(const char *path, struct stat *buf);
 *
Dstat             pr            10i 0 extproc('stat')
D                                 *   value
D                                 *   value

C                   eval      rc=stat(full_fn:%addr(info))

full_fn is the null terminated path to the file. I may have left something
out of this snippet, but it should help. I think the archives have better
examples than this...
