I have a file with default values for the user's screens. It is designed
as a utility to work across the installation and has a 1,024 character
data field for the values. A program gets and puts the user's values into
this field, but of course some values are numeric, and none of the fields
line up from program to program, so inside the actual program there is a
data structure where values are set to their correct size and
configuration. The first time a user accesses a an application the data
comes back as blanks, so if it is blanks I do a clear of the data
structure and move it into the field so there are no data decimal errors.
All of this works beautifully and the users love having their own settings
remembered.

However here's my problem: Lets say I add a value to an existing
application and add that value to the data structure. This works just
fine, so long as the value isn't numeric. If it is numeric I get a data
decimal error. Is there anyway within RPGIV that you can think of that I
can have a data decimal error default to zeros for a particular place and
time?
