thinking about the password field are we :) If you use RPG, you can switch the upper and lower 4-bit nibbles. You can also XOR a 10-byte value against a constant. As your ambition (or your requirement for security) grows, you may try Playfair, mono-alphabetic substitution, poly-alphabetic substitution, DES and it variations, Rijndael (the AES selection), any of the public-key techniques using two prime-number factors, or quantum crypto. What you choose depends on how long it has to last and how good you think that your attacker is.
