You could always use some special characters that will never appear in
the report for example...

Page      of ~~~~

on your printout. You would print the page number as you go. Once the
spooled file is complete, use spooled file APIs to capture the spooled
file to a user space (as well as total number of pages). Then scan the
user space for ~~~~ and replace with the total number of pages. Finally,
use spooled file APIs to re-generate a spooled file.
