I finally got a chance to look at this code.  It is cool!

I would be interested in seeing it benchmarked against the other two methods
proposed.  Although the microsecond difference for an interactive session would
hardly go noticed, but you know, over a whole day they do add up. :)

Cranking through a downloaded PC CSV file with 50,000 entries, each with 10
numbers to convert might make a difference.

Sorry, I lost the post by the person who did the benchmark, but could you do
this?  It's only the weekend coming up.  What else could you possibly be doing?
