Excellent examples, Buck.

Another great place for newbies to start is with all those pesky little code
tables your programs chain out to to get descriptions, etc.  Replace the
table and all the code with a standard procedure that does the same lookup,
gets a code description, or whatever.  They are eazy to write, since they
are no different than what you are already doing and you can usually reuse
the procedure in many, many programs.  The more files you can remove from
your programs, the easier they are to deal with.  Put a few of these in a
service program and you will quickly begin to see the light.
