I know Im late in replying to your message but I will anyway...

I have used OPNQRYF for the same purpose since I first ran accross it 
10 years ago... a very powerful to to sort and select the input you 
need.... 
example:

opnqryf file(infile) qryslt(*all) keyfld((fld10)(fld5)(fld22)) ....

There are a host of options that you can apply to allow you to limit 
the data as needed and it will accept variables from your clp.

please be aware, I always do an over ride on the data base file to 
ensure that it has a shared open data path....

an installation left out this parameter and I spent two days 
recovering from the mess created by someone elses OPPS
