Ok, I have a windows 7 64 bit CD. My desktop isn't 64 bit though. Will that cause problems?

I tried doing something like what you suggest using the XP install disk but it doesn't find the system32 directory. The drive is SATA and I'm wondering if I need to load drivers when I boot from the CD. It does give me a c: prompt though.

You need a Vista or Win7 Media. You can use Vista or Win7 to fix an XP install, though.
