I inferred from the scenario (connect two PCs, make wireless
available, daisy chain existing switch) that the device was going to
be inside the firewall so that the two PCs can access the network. If
that is not required, then this is a great idea.

We actually did this to provide wireless access in our conference room
for visitors. I connected a Linksys wireless router to a switch
OUTSIDE of our firewall and gave it a dedicated public address.

My suggestion for blocking port 25 is so that people can't use it to
send spam (depending on where it's located, it could be accessible from
the outside).

Excellent idea; I will make sure that ours is configured that way.
