RE: HANG time...

That thought crossed my mind too although if you're like me with a wife and
kids the $400 would be better spent on home improvement projects,
especially if you've already got a PC (albeit old) sitting in the basement
that could do what you want it to do if you just put some time and effort
into it.

Just for the record, I do have two brand new XP-Pro PC's that get daily
use, a handful of Windows 98 PC's for the wife and kids, but I do still
have a Windows 95 PC that works fine whenever I get the urge to play with
MIDI.  (And just how well does XP support two sound cards?  You can do it
just fine in Windows 95 and 98.  <g>)

Another thought: You can buy a brand new machine from Dell for only about
$400 these days (less monitor).  Why screw with an ancient machine and a
very bad OS (win98).  At best if you get it up and running you've still got
a barely runnable system.  Spend the money and end up with something decent
for your troubles.
