Chuck, Mike,
This is caused by the site not checking the resolution prior to rendering
the page to the browser. A resolution of 1024x768 or higher will cause
"Fitted" HTML to display on the left side of the browser. ESPN has always
been guilty of this, despite my many e-mails and offers to fix it for them.

That is why I always check up to this resolution for any web-sites that I
do.

Make sure he has all the latest patches installed. If that doesn't work,
tell him to use Mozilla, that should work.

Subject: [PCTECH] Problem with a new Compaq and 17" flat screen

Hi Folks,

Had one of the salesman query me just now; he purchased a new Compaq desktop
PC this weekend with a 17" monitor and all was fine. He fired up IE and went
to ESPN's website (so read in more detail about our Colt's mess yesterday.)
and it only showed on about 2/3's of the screen with the right hand side
"missing". So he went to PC World and ZDNET and it was fine on them. Then he
went to Comcast (his cable provider) and it showed even smaller and in the
very middle of the screen.

And here we go with offshore support. He called Compaq tech support and
spoke to 6 different people and said he could basically understand none of
them (accents). This is no knock on our international friends ! He is a
patient person but ended up hanging up on them. As he noted, the sad thing
is, he gives up on tech support and is willing to live with the problem. I
am get him the URL for Compaq's web-based tech support because I have never
had any problems with them.

So does anyone have any idea what would be causing this behavior ?

Thanks,

Chuck
