PALMISANO NAMED IBM CHAIRMAN| InfoWorld
It was a much anticipated changing of the guard, and now it's
official. IBM President and CEO Samuel Palmisano was named chairman
of the company. Palmisano, who became CEO last March, will succeed
Louis V. Gerstner Jr., who is retiring from IBM at the end of the
year.

Hi Everyone,

I have a question just for curiosity. No doubt most of us have seen the
above announcement that Sam Palmisano
will be Chairman, CEO and President of IBM. In Australia we don't usually
have company presidents in the way that
all US companies seem to have.

I was wondering exactly what the role of a company president is in relation
to Chairman and CEO?

Thanks
