I am thinking Niels is on the right track here.
Try logging off/on, then issue the OVRDBF and the STRSQL.
Or, better yet, do the suggested CREATE OR REPLACE ALIAS alias2 FOR
table2(member1);
This works fine
CREATE OR *REPLACE* ALIAS qtemp.alias2 FOR erplxf.rco(rco);
select * from qtemp.alias2;
drop alias qtemp.alias2;

Perhaps you have already run the SQL once . By default cursors now keep the
“file” open. You can change that by overriding settings in qaqqini.

You can always make an alias so you don’t need the OVRDBF

I could swear the OVRDBF did take effect a month ago.

What am I doing wrong?

Nothing. I'm 100% sure you remember wrong.

Strsql uses the OS integrated SQL engine, while OVRDBF affects opened
files of an application. A completely different thing.

:wq! PoC
