I learned RPG 27 years ago, the hard way. I moved to free format... well, I can't remember! A long time ago.

I can hardly stand reading or deciphering the old fixed format "stuff" we had to deal with.
If I have to redo or rewrite something, it gets converted first. Even if I go into a huge program to make a small change, my change is in free format.

Now, as for the Visual Studio.... I downloaded that a while back and used it. I'm partial to RDi, but was willing to give it a try. The biggest drawback was a lack of debugger. Has that been resolved with the "IBM I Development Pack"? Specifically, the Service Entry Points?

Instead of just the "Code for IBM i" extension, download the "IBM i Development Pack".

Not everything is in "Code for IBM i" so the pack was created to include the other extensions you need for IBM i development.
