When you use the ftp client on IBM i you can use the ftp subcommand SYSTEM
and it will return:
215 OS/400 is the remote operating system. The TCP/IP version is "V7R5M0".
from a dos client:
ftp> quote system
215 OS/400 is the remote operating system. The TCP/IP version is "V7R5M0".
This knowledge may help my google-fu
