Thanks for the information Jim. After talking to IBM about the problem, they suggested I try a new version of Java. I was using Java 8. I downloaded IBM’s version of Java 11 and that took care of the issue I was having.

That version needs not only the jar file but a couple of the executables to go with it. The real fix is to use the installer to reinstall over the top of the old version.
If you look in recent archives you’ll find one post that shows all of them, about 3 I think.

Unzipping the file will not quite do it.

Hi Justin,

I faintly remember your message from before and wondered if it was the same problem I was having. When I install ACS, I download the zip file and then unzip it to a shared location on the network so that others can install it. Then, I copy the entire folder to my local drive. So, my jar file and .exe should be up to date. Did IBM provide a new jar file and exe? The strange part is I can connect to one system and not the other. Both systems are at the same PTF level.

Some people, including me, reported this problem last month (check the
archives). In my case, I'm running off an SMB share and only updated the
JAR. IBM support had me update the EXE as well, and that fixed it.

subject: Access client solutions java error

I'm using ACS 1.1.9.4<http://1.1.9.4><http://1.1.9.4<http://1.1.9.4>> and I'm trying to start a 5250 session on our DR
machine. The machine is hosted at another site. After I enter my user
name and password, I receive the message MSGGEN005 - Internal
error.(java.lang:NullPointerException). When I verify the connection in
ACS for this machine, telnet on port 992 is successful. This connection
was working under the previous version of ACS. I am able to start 5250
sessions on our production box just fine. The OS on both machines is 7.4
if that makes a difference. The java version being used by ACS is version
1.8.0_151 from IBM. Any ideas what the problem might be?

I am able to telnet from our production machine to the DR machine and I
can sign on that way, but I would like to get ACS working.
