We're running a couple LPAR's which we've maintained with image catalogs when software changes are required.

Years ago, I read some stuff in which you could load up an image catalog once, then share it with the other LPAR's when applying the change. I tried this a number of years ago without success, but we were under the gun , so I didn't take the time to flesh out my problems and never got back to it. Currently, we're creating the image catalogs and loading them up individually into the ifs on each LPAR, like the other one doesn't even exist. I'd like to revisit this process and document it for the future. Does IBM (or anybody else) have a readable document which describes it?

Both of my LPARS are at V7R5 and are reasonably current on PTFs. The image catalogs usually get download directly from IBM and are set up in folders in the IFS; we're not using physical media. We're accessing the image catalogs from a virtual optical device. I'm not married to any of these specifics if there's a better way.
