Don, I have (believe it or not) a Power 6 8203-E4A that I have to keep running because a programmer at my job uses it as a Domino sandbox @ V7R1.
There's no SWMA or HWMA on it so when things go like disk drives or cache batteries, 1 guess who has to fix them?

For disk drives, I go to Abacus Solutions. They always have those around.
For cache batteries, a tech from IBM showed me how to reset them when they error out every 3 years or so. I've reset them twice. I'm told it's not a good practice
but it is relatively easy.

First time it happened a few years back, IBM wanted $6000 for new Power 6 cache batteries. Of course, management was not happy and I used
the IBM tech's method and it worked nicely.

I know a guy who used to work at Abacus and knows his Power hardware for sure. He's now at Cumberland Group.

Hi all

I remember reading on this list someone said they purchased a battery from battery world or somewhere that they subsequently were able to use in an IBM Power system.

Just wondering if anyone remembers who that was and was the replacement a like for like or did they have to do some work meaning to attach the connector.

Any details would be appreciated.

Thanks

Don
