Jim, AFAIK, binary can be up to 64-bits, so it has a precision of 20
significant digits (in decimal), being the largest numeric positive
expression 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 (take the 64th power of 2). In FLOAT
(which is like a double in "C") will give you at most 15 digits if
FLOAT(8), and like half of that or so (don't remember right now) for
FLOAT(4), including the integral part and the decimal part. Someone may
correct me if I'm wrong.

Better choose packed or zoned. And always think of integral digits and
decimal digits totalling at most 63 as Barbara said.

It was still 31 digits as of V5R2, so it might be V5R3, or it might be V6.

I'm assuming this goes for Zoned and Packed. Please tell me I'm not
going to find a similar surprise with binary and float.
