I wouldn't expect an asterisk in the middle of a pattern to work.

You are likely correct according to the error message:

Message ID . . . . . . . . . : CPF38A5
Message file . . . . . . . . : QCPFMSG
Library . . . . . . . . . : QSYS

Message . . . . : Error on the PATTERN parameter.
Cause . . . . . : Error on the PATTERN parameter, reason &1:
1 -- Pathname not allowed for the PATTERN parameter.
Recovery . . . : Correct the error and try the request again.
