And which it probably is today, still. You just don't notice anymore.

But because CPU cycles can now be had in abundance, nobody cares about efficient programming anymore. This is not limited to IBM i but a problem of the whole IT industry + FOSS. Today, this issue rarely manifests in users waiting in front of their screens, but by increased power dissipation, clogged RAM and insane disk space requirements. A single CPU core might draw some dozens of Watts more for a split second: It's nothing. Now multiply that with the gazillions the CPU cores around the world.
