Host table entry is for lookup only, not for any kind of relay. kinda like
your pc hosts table. Someone put it in there because they probably didn't
set up any (or the correct) DNS servers in CFGTCP option 12. That's not a
new feature.

I've seen it a thousand times.

part of the menu in the beginning. There was a reason we all did the same
thing and set up the SMTP host table entry to find our real mail server.
Was it for relay only? where the AS400 acted as a corporate mail server ?
Maybe the bias for APPN had something to do with it ?
