All true, but consider that ACS can navigate the IFS much easier and when
the file is opened for inspection, you can save it locally. Translation
done for you. Now you can use whatever tool makes you happy to review the
contents.

There is a very good chance that the log contents are in EBCDIC, and
not all "regular" text editors can handle that. The most reliable
thing to use is DSPF, which (1) usually does a good job detecting the
character encoding and displaying human-readable text if possible, and
(2) has a hex mode in case you need it.

WRKLNK is a good way to traverse the IFS. You will eventually wind up
using DSPF (option 5) or EDTF (option 2) if you go that route.
