One of our developers found a really bad SQL compile problem in V7R3
because he was looking at the RPG listing view. IBM created a PDF For it a
few years back. Now he won't go back to Source view and I HATE source view
on SQLRPGLE.

I just ran a few tests and I can specify "DBGVIEW(*LIST)" on the main
CRTSQLRPGI command and that works fine. So, perhaps it is no longer
needed to use COMPILEOPT in those cases?

YMMV ... depends on what version/release of OS/400 or IBM i you have.
