+1 Patrik!

Your helper syndrome is much appreciated! And there is evidence of abuse of our generous natures here.

When I was in computer school, the instructor strongly encourage independent learning - he said, no one is going to stand behind you, waiting for you to ask a question. So true, no employer is going to pay someone just to be a reference manual.

Vern

Does anyone else notice something like the posts from a different person here recently? Universal "entire-system" task? Please share the program? Please share an SQL query?
Yes. There are certain similarities in wording from different mail addresses, suggesting that it might be the same person writing those messages.

People on these lists are sometimes too generous and kind! All my thanks for the help I've received here. I don't like feeling cynical about anyone who comes here.
Well, I usually assume good intentions with anyone asking for help. But from time to time, there pop up very similar messages, as you observed. The poster(s) just vomit out questions at the group(s) without apparent preparation, planning, skill, progress in learning or thinking, or even providing proper feedback, or clear wording at all. Partly even ignoring given advice.

Maybe it's a language problem? I don't want to appear rude but just very clear on this:

If you want to deal seriously with computers, you need to write and understand English. If you seek help in an English speaking group, you need to write and understand English. I'm a non-native English speaker myself.

Moreover, if you want to program, you need to learn how to use your own brain. If you think you can trick others into doing your homework instead of proving an effort to kind souls trying to help, expect to be ignored, or worse. That's my understanding how things (should) work.

Of course, this is based on some assumptions, and there are people with disabilities. But then, if I'm deaf, I most likely can't be a proper musician. If I'm a dyslexic, I better not try to write books. If I'm plain dumb, I most likely can't be a proper programmer. Everybody has strengths and weaknesses. With all due respect to people struggling to overcome their weaknesses and showing progress in becoming better.

Whatever the reason is behind those many, or probably all the same person's reasons writing as many, I feel abused. Yet, my helper syndrome kicks very easily.

Just saying.
