Hello James,

We've noticed that Telnet sessions that are not signed on (i.e., option 8 on WRKTCPSTS shows a device name, with *SIGNON as the user) stick around for a while. Do they time out?

I don't think so. The user has signed off (nor not signed on, yet), and his emulator window is just "open" (but maybe in the background, minimized, whatever).

And is there a setting for how long it takes for them to time out?

I don't think they time out at all. In the end, it's the same mechanism in the background as with Twinax terminals. There also was no timeout I'm aware of.

Or is that entirely dependent on whether or not there's something at the other end?

Exactly that.

Also, I'm having trouble remembering (if I was ever actually clear on it at all): does a terminal session that hits QINACTITV get terminated immediately, or does it initially just get disconnected?

I dimly remember there was as second variable to make the system determine what happens when the timeout value is reached.

:wq! PoC
