This is from my COMMON pitch on Optimizing Work Management discussing the functions QCMD performs:

The default routing program is QCMD

It does the following:

Set the attention Key (Optional)
Run the initial program on the user profile
Display the initial menu
Loop back to the initial menu

Note that signoff breaks this loop and does as requested.

As long as any routing program does the four things in that list, it can be any program. Furthermore, just about any logic can be added at any point in the process, so for your purposes I would put the SNDMSGxxx just in front of the initial program.

Hello Marc,

You could try for this QSYS/QCMD replacement program in the routing entry to send the message you are talking about.

An interesting proposal! Yet, I can't see what this replacement must do to pass the hard work unaltered to the real QCMD after sending the message.

I do not know how the copyright message is sent, we can only see in the joblog that it is an informational message (not coming from a message file) sent to QSYS/QUIMGFLW program from itself.

It's a static string in the UIM panel group source.

Honestly, I don't like the direction this is taking. ;-) I still struggle to get a wholesome understanding about this message handling in OS/400 and successors. I feel like putting this aside for a later point in time.

:wq! PoC
