I use the IFS primarily as a PDF storage place.
I have a process that EVERY spool files that is created get put into the IFS as a PDF and the spool is deleted.
The network guys put PDF's in there as well that I pick up and email.

This number might be around 500 a day.

Not much for table changes.

You can also journal the IFS but caution if there are lots of updates that journal will get big fast.

When we first started out with VTL we had one on site which got
replicated to a site at a co-location facility. Kind of forerunner to
the cloud you might say. This worked ok until we got our own VTL at
that co-lo and moved one of our Power systems there too.

Keep in mind that "save while active" is a sick pathetic joke when it
comes to the IFS. You're not going to find anything easy to help you
with that. Solutions include:
- Software replication systems like Mimix and others.
- Storing your data on SAN and using snapshots during the day until
you can do an offline save.

Hi All,

I am trying to learn as much as I can about VTL with cloud backup and
remote journaling.

Right now we just have a tape drive (Ultrium5) and want something better.

If we put in a VTL and contract with someone to replicate that the
cloud, that takes care of our existing situation.
I would also like to use remote journaling to save our critical data
throughout the day. This would also be with an outside vendor.

We are not looking for a hot site per say or have our own duplicate server.

What about the IFS? How can I make sure the IFS is backed
up/replicated throughout the day?

Is there anything else I am not understanding?

All guidance is appreciated.
