When you wrap a field name in a scalar function, it is not the same field, and is not referenced by the field name, i.e.

    PROCESS is not the same as UPPER(PROCESS)

@Peter
Thank you. Using the field number worked. Strange that you cannot use the
field name.

Use an ALIAS for UPPER(process) like:

Select Distinct upper(Process) AS Process_A, etc
Order by Process_A

I need help building this statement.
IBMi does not like it.

set schema oprutllib;

(Select Distinct upper(Process), Schedule_Year, Schedule_Period,

'Tasks' As File,

Schedule

from Mth_Tasks

Union All

Select Distinct upper(Process), Schedule_Year, Schedule_Period,

'Log' As File,

Schedule

from Mth_Logs )

Order by upper(Process), Schedule_Year desc, Schedule_Period desc,
Schedule
Desc

----------------------

If I do the order by as : Order by Process, Schedule_Year desc,
Schedule_Period desc, Schedule Desc

it complains that PROCESS is undefined or not in the list.

As the field Process allows both upper and lower case, I need to be able
to
sort using uppercase.

Any Suggestions would be appreciated.
